The Original 20 Rules of Base Ball
In 1845, base ball (two words back then) was in its infancy. There were actually several different versions of the game. The New York Knickerbockers, led by Alexander J. Cartwright, reasoned that formalizing and distributing their rules would promote and grow their version of the game. Thus, the first written rules of base ball.
Oddly, the first to score 21 runs (or aces) were the victors regardless of the number of innings played. Interestingly, the Balk was one of the original 20! Some are a bit cryptic, but can yet tell which ones are still around?
